Safety & Reporting

Last updated 2026-09-15 · version 2 · Every sentence on this page describes what the game does on the day it was published; where something is not built yet, the page says so.

1. The AI is disclosed

The game master and every character in Sy-Town are run by AI language models, not by people. You are told this in plain words before your first turn, and a line saying so stays on the play screen every session. The other players you meet are people; the fiction is a machine. What the AI writes is fiction, can be wrong, and is never advice or a fact about anyone real.

2. If you are in danger

If what you type reads like you might be hurting for real, not your character, the game stops that turn and answers outside the fiction: in the United States, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any hour); anywhere else, findahelpline.com lists the line for your country. The message that triggered it is not played, no character reads it, nothing on your account changes, and a record is kept so a person can check the protocol worked. This is automatic and it can misfire on fiction; when it does, play on. It exists because the alternative is worse.

3. Prohibited conduct

Harassing, threatening or stalking another player; sexual content directed at another player; exposing anyone's real identity; sexual content involving minors; using the game to plan real harm; automated play, scripted clients or resale of access; and attempts to force content past the register described in the Content Policy.

4. Reporting a line

Any line you read in play, in a whisper or in a message can be reported with the /report command: /report harassment they followed me between scenes. The report attaches the line as you saw it and goes into a queue that only people read. Categories: harassment, sexual, self_harm, hate, real_person, underage, other. Nothing happens automatically; a person reads it, decides, and writes down why.

5. Blocking a player

/block <player> closes the line between you and another player in both directions: no whispers, no messages, no friend requests, no party invites, until you /unblock them. /blocks lists who you have blocked. A block is your decision and needs no reason.

6. Decisions about accounts, and appeals

Every suspension or ban is decided by a person, never by a machine, with a reason written at the time. When access is closed you are told at the door: what was decided, when, and the reason. You can appeal from the same screen; the appeal goes to a person, and the answer comes back to your account. Nothing is deleted by a suspension or a ban.

7. What is kept, and for how long

Reports and appeals are kept with the account, for the record. A line that the register refused is kept for a limited window so a wrong refusal can be checked, and it is never shown to any AI model. When an account is erased, its reports stay as unsigned records. An account that is the subject of a legal matter can be placed on hold by a person, with the reason recorded; a held account is not erased until the hold is released.

8. Contact

For anything these pages do not cover, write to the address on the sign-in page. A person answers.
